summer reading lists

I don't know what to read this summer!

I am starting w/

Amitav Ghosh's 'Sea of Poppies' - a novel about the Indian opium & slavery trades, set in India.
Dave Eggers' 'Zeitoun' - a novel about New Orleans after Katrina
James Fenimore Cooper's 'The Deerslayer' - a novel about early America

But who knows, I could use some suggestions...

  1. Yo, so I've got these four on my short list

Robert Musil The Confusions of Young Torless - early 1900s psychodrama about a boys' school
Ishmael Reed Mumbo Jumbo - 1920s New York Afro-centric history/fiction mashup
Jose Saramago Blindness - a whole city goes blind and society breaks down
Julio Cortazar Hopscotch - funky experimental novel set in Paris with 155 chapters that can be read in any order

we'll see how far I get, or if any of them are any good in the first place, but thought I'd throw these out there anyway

  3. I read this book about a cat with a hat once, can't remember the name, if you went to like a borders or something and asked they might know it.
